Westinghouse WCM770B 700 Watt
Although the microwave’s ability to cook food was discovered by accident, you don’t want to accidentally wind up with the wrong microwave. Which is why we’re testing them out so you don’t have to.
- The Look of The Westinghouse WCM770B 700 Watt Microwave
Let’s just cut right to the chase here. This isn’t the microwave you hang over your oven hoping to impress your friends.
There is no burnished metal. No fancy nobs. It’s just black matte plastic with a boring beveled door. And the buttons are either an off white or a muted blueberry. The color scheme alone makes you want to hide it under a blanket when your significant other comes over.
But, all jokes aside, if you’re looking for a small portable microwave, this one is both. It’s approximately 18 inches wide, 13.5 inch depth, and 10.5 inches tall and only weighs about 23 lbs.
It is a countertop microwave so it’s designed to fit in a smaller space in your kitchen. This means that the cooking space is only 0.7 cubic feet, or about the size of a small casserole.
- How Does The WCM770B 700 Watt Perform?
While you are buying a lower wattage microwave, most microwaves don’t sap enough of your yearly energy bill to warrant worrying about energy efficiency. The low wattage is mostly due to the size of the microwave as it is designed to sit on a small countertop.
Its performance matches other microwaves of its kind. You can’t cook a whole four-course meal in the Westinghouse WCM770B 700 Watt. But if you’re looking for something to evenly cook a small casserole or a few baked potatoes this oven will do just fine.
The pre-sets are highly accurate. So, you can pop your instant bag of popcorn without worrying about it burning. (This would be the perfect dorm microwave. Although college students still might figure out how to burn popcorn regardless.)
It also features 6 presets: Reheat, potato, popcorn, beverage, pizza, and frozen food and has ten power levels will more than give you the customization you need for cooking.
- Any Negatives About The Westinghouse WCM770B 700 Watt?
Some have complained that the door sticks when opening this microwave. And due to it’s lightweight, this creates a possibly perilous situation if you place your microwave close to the edge of the countertop.
But if you are ok with the aesthetics of a clearly utilitarian design, then the Westinghouse WCM770B 700 Watt microwave has very few negatives.
- Lightweight and portable
- Cooks evenly
- Pre-sets are accurate
- 10 power levels for variety and customization cooking
- Small enough to fit on your countertop
- Utilitarian design is not pleasing to the eye
- Not for people who don’t know their own strength
This microwave is great for the price. Despite our tongue in cheek review of its aesthetics, it’s really not going to stand out too much from most contemporary appliances in your kitchen.
And the accurate pre-sets are a wonder of technology that never ceases to amaze.
