Are you into cooking healthy, delicious, and seriously appetizing meals – but a little short on the 4 hours of Prep Time that those meals always seem to require?  Join the club.  As more and more people look for the most convenient ways to cook, balanced meals you can cook right in your toaster oven are growing in popularity. Maybe that’s why, in recent years, sales of toaster ovens have skyrocketed to nearly $8 million in revenue.

With more options out there than ever, it can be hard to find the toaster oven that actually lives up to what it promises. That’s why we’ve created this series of posts reviewing some of the most popular toaster oven models on the market today.

Here, we’re talking all things KitchenAid KCO273SS. Is it all it’s cracked up to be? Read on to find out!

The KitchenAid KCO273SS: What It Promises

Of course, before we can talk about whether or not the KitchenAid KCO273SS delivers, let’s talk about what it claims to be able to do – and why so many people love it. (Spoiler alert: we did, too!)

This KitchenAid boasts:

  • A digital screen for easy reading
  • Convection baking
  • The ability to automatically turn itself off
  • A crumb tray you can easily take out to clean
  • A defrosting setting
  • Conversions between Fahrenheit and Celsius
  • 1800-watt power
  • Two knobs for easy setting adjustment
  • The same performance level as a standard oven, at 12 inches (meaning it takes up a limited amount of valuable countertop space)
  • 9 different memory settings
  • The ability to adjust temperatures on its own during a cooking/toasting cycle
  • The additional inclusion of a non-stick pan, a broiling and cooling rack, and a drip tray that is also non-stick
  • A timer that runs for up to 120 minutes
  • A non-stick inside, to prevent any major messes

Finally, one of our favorite features of the KitchenAid KCO273SS is the Even Heat Technology, which has actually been trademarked by KitchenAid itself.

Even-Heat Technology makes sure that each part of your food is cooked evenly – so no charred outsides and gooey, undercooked insides. The technology turns on different sections of the toaster oven at different parts of the cooking cycle to make sure it’s cooked perfectly.

You can’t get this with a bargain-bin toaster oven.

So, just how effective are these undeniably awesome features of the KitchenAid KCO273SS? Keep reading to find out.

What’s The Verdict?

Honestly, the KitchenAid KCO273SS is doing pretty well for itself in our eyes!

We found that most of the promised features deliver pretty well, and satisfaction is high.

However, we all know that nothing’s perfect.

Let’s break down some of the most common pros and cons here.

Pros:

1) You can roast: We know that the Asado Roast feature is a huge selling point, especially as it’s pretty tough to find a toaster oven with roasting abilities.

We found that that the feature works just as well as a regular oven – though the size of the model made it difficult to create larger roasts, of course.

2) It’s not loud: Believe it or not, this was probably one of our favorite assets of the toaster oven. We really felt that both the quiet fan and the lower overall noise of the oven was a major bonus.

Especially if you’re watching your favorite show or listening to the radio while you cook, you won’t have to worry about the rattling of the oven making it impossible to hear.

3) It’s an awesome oven alternative: It doesn’t matter whether your space or your budget is limited: reviewers and users agree that the KitchenAid KCO273SS is one of the best alternatives on the market today. Your food won’t be burned to a crisp, and you won’t have to waste time turning your food to ensure it’s cooked evenly.

4) You can pre-set: Everyone loves functions that allow them to save time. We do, too!

Depending on what you want to cook, you can choose from lots of different pre-set toasting time and temperature options.

That means there’s no guesswork when it comes to certain foods. Even better? If there’s a food you love to cook that’s not listed on the pre-set options, you can store it in the toaster oven’s memory for future use.

Cons:

1) The price: Depending on your circumstances, even if it’s hundreds of dollars cheaper than an actual oven, the KitchenAid KCO273SS toaster oven is still pricey to most.

It’s priced at around $200, which makes it tough to swallow for some.

2) The lack of interior light: If you like to constantly monitor the status of their food without having to open the toaster door may become frustrated by this model. We even found ourselves using an emergency flashlights to look inside! Hopefully, KitchenAid will take this to heart and make a later model that focuses on providing quality interior light.

These were really the only two consistent complaints we had about this model.

However in the past, there have been reports that the glass of the oven shattered during the first use.

To prevent this from happening to you, make sure you treat your oven with care, especially when moving it.

Also, don’t exceed any time or temperature restrictions as outlined in your user’s manual.

Finally, to keep your toaster oven going for as long as possible, frequent cleanings are crucial.

Be sure to empty out the crumb tray at least once a week, or after a particularly intensive cooking day.

Never clean your toaster oven while it is plugged in. Also, to avoid fires or melting issues, be sure that you’ve left plenty of space between your toaster oven and other objects out on your kitchen counter.

In the end, it’s all about using common sense to keep safe!

Is The KitchenAid KCO273SS Right For You?

As you can see, there is a lot to like about this model. But, that doesn’t mean it’s the only option out there! If it’s a little out of your price range, or if you need features it doesn’t have, keep reading our website and blog posts for more upcoming information about alternative, affordable toaster ovens!
